On 21 April, 2020, the regular distance learning course of the 5th stream of the Anti-Corruption School for Young Leaders took place.

The topic of the training was “Anti-Corruption Bodies in Armenia; Functions of Preventive and Anti-Corruption Education”. Mr. Marat Atovmyan, Mr. Marat Atovmyan, a Board Member of the Armenian Lawyers’ Association, Lawyer/Anti-Corruption Expert delivered the lecture.

Within the framework of the training, the lecturer presented the bodies carrying out the fight against corruption in the Republic of Armenia and their functions, and referred to prevention and anti-corruption education.

He also touched upon the lack of cooperation, professionalism and unity among the anti-corruption bodies in the Republic of Armenia, which leads to the implementation of the not so effective anti-corruption struggle. The lecturer noted that anti-corruption education is one of the most important tools in the fight against corruption. However, less importance is provided to this function in Armenia, instead, traditionally giving preference to the punitive mechanism. The prevention of corruption is of great importance in the fight against corruption, but its mechanisms in Armenia still need to be improved. In this context, the lecturer noted the importance for the introduction of new preventive measures envisaged by the latest legislative packages.

He also touched upon the shortcomings of the anti-corruption institutional system in Armenia and the possibilities of correcting them.
